Brighton Film School offers fantastic facilities, dedicated TV and film industry lecturers and a central location in a renowned filmmaker’s city.  We are an industry respected higher education institution providing a range of courses up to degree level. Courses cover all aspects of film making including working on short films, documentaries and music promo’s, as well as developing lighting, sound and camera techniques, and exploring editing and production roles.  

Brighton Film School courses are embedded with a strong conceptual and theoretical background in film production and the British Film and TV Industry. They are taught across a number of sites in Brighton by currently practicing film makers, industry professionals and technicians and are validated by a range of Higher Education partners. 

Brighton Film School is dedicated to enabling students to progress from education into sustainable careers in the TV and Film Industry.  This year we launched our new BA (Hons) in Film Production with delivery commencing in September 2019, and the successful applicant will play a key role in building and growing this course and maintaining our existing strong partnership with the University of Brighton. 

Brighton Film School has enjoyed rapid growth in the recent years in both student numbers and reputation, and with the addition of our new partnership with BIMM institute will continue to deliver to the highest standard of education whilst bringing new and exciting opportunities for staff and students.

Person Specification

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of BFS working with the Head of Estates and Facilities to ensure the appropriateness, quality and safety of the college environment. They will work closely with departments within the School but will report directly to the Head of Estates and Facilities.

Leadership skills, with good communication, planning, organisational and time management abilities are essential.

Essential Criteria for Applicant

• Understanding of IT (PC & Apple)

Desirable Criteria

• Knowledge of virtual learning environments 
• Driving licence (or willingness to gain one) 
• First aid at work qualification (or willingness to gain one) 
• Fire Marshal training (or willingness to gain one) 
• Knowledge /experience of film making equipment

Key Accountabilities

The post holder will be required to meet the listed accountabilities, these are indicative of the roles and responsibilities you will have; however these may change in line with the needs of the school.

1. Generalist IT
a) Configuring and installing PCs, Macs,
b) Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection or similar
c) Working with Wi-Fi networks
d) Managing virtual networks

2. Security
a) Working with the Head of Estates and Facilities to train tutors with regard to GDPR Practices and Policies
b) Ensuring that all site users adhere to BFS  Security policy, as stated in Student and Tutor manuals
c) Reporting non-compliance to the Head of Estates and Facilities
d) The post holder will be a key holder and be responsible for the setting and deactivating of the security alarm when necessary. It will also be the post holder’s responsibility to ensure that the building is secure prior to the alarm being set at night: 
• Check that all windows are closed 
• Check that all doors are locked, and shutters are down.
• Check that all equipment is secure and switched off 
• Check that all lights are off and that the air conditioning system is switched off 

3. Building & Estates General
a) Managing student behaviour both on site and off site and in the immediate environments of the school
b) Logging and reporting building faults. Working with the Head of Estates and Facilities to implement a rolling programme of repairs, improvements and refurbishments 

4. IT and Virtual Learning Environments
a) Providing technical support for the School’s IT resources including the Learning Resource Centre and Mac Suites 
c) Supporting the technicians in the audio and video recording of student assessments  as required by the academic and events & guests teams when necessary.

5. Equipment
a) Ensuring that all teaching rooms are laid out correctly and have the requested/necessary equipment for the smooth running of the day’s lessons 
b) Reacting to lecturer’s equipment requirements to help ensure excellence of teaching delivery 
c) Checking equipment regularly to ensure good, working order
d) Maintaining the equipment asset list for the building & any external venue
e) Backline and reporting equipment faults to the Head of Estates and Facilities
f) Arranging for the servicing and repairing of equipment with the Head of Estates and Facilities approval

6. Cleaning
a) Checking that the School is clean and tidy before the arrival of staff and students and monitoring the environment throughout the day
b) Checking that the contract cleaners work is up to an acceptable standard and reporting any issues to the Head of Estates and Facilities
c) Monitoring the cleanliness of the toilets, reporting any plumbing or sanitation problems to the Head of Estates and Facilities
d) Emptying the bins and vacuuming the reception, if necessary, if required
e) Ensure that the area directly outside of the entrance to the BIMM London building is generally clean and litter free

7. Health and Safety
a) Be fully aware of all BFS Health and Safety regulations and maintain constant vigilance that these are adhered to by staff and students
b) Work with the Head of Estates and Facilities to draft risk assessments and keep the H&S testing program (fire alarm, fire extinguishers, fire evacuation etc) up to date
c) Assist the Head of Estates and Facilities in the training of tutors with regard to BFS policy and reporting non-compliance to the Head of Estates and Facilities

8. External venues for Teaching
a) If BFS uses any external venues, the post holder will be in regular contact with the any regular tutors to ensure any equipment held in this location is in full working order or that substitute equipment is made available and faulty equipment is repaired

9. General
a) To assist the Head of Estates and Facilities as required
b) Assisting with setting up of and providing technical support for external events
