Senior Immigration & Compliance Officer - 13 month FTC

Contractual Hours: 37.5 hours per week – 9.00am to 5.30pm (to include some Saturdays).

Person Specification

The post holder will have a central role in supporting the BIMM Immigration and Compliance team. Key aspects of the role include a good understanding of immigration regulations within the education sector – student requirements and sponsor responsibilities. Alongside this, there will be an expectation of delivering efficient support and service to the student and providing clear and concise guidance when required.

The Immigration and Compliance team will be working closely with the BIMM International Admissions Team as well as the BIMM Group’s UK colleges to ensure that BIMM upholds sponsor duties from the point of application through to graduation.

Essential Criteria for Applicant:

• Experience of working in a busy office environment.
• Experience of using a Higher Education student records system (e.g., ASIS or Banner).
• Experience of providing information and support to international students on immigration related subjects.
• Experience of working with databases and spreadsheets.
• Substantial experience, knowledge and understanding of UK Visas and Immigration policy affecting international students and educational institutions.
• Applied recent knowledge to OISC level 2 of current regulations and legislation affecting international students.
• Proven ability to provide exceptional customer care.
• Applied knowledge of Windows-based software packages.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
• Ability to develop systems and processes with proven ability to innovate.
• A can-do, positive attitude - initiative and self-motivation is essential.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to manage and prioritise different and often conflicting workloads.
• Ability to work as a member of a team.
• Ability to work to deadlines in a calm, methodical and accurate manner.
• An understanding of and interest in other cultures.

Desirable Criteria for Applicant

• ECDL (or equivalent).
• Degree in a relevant subject.
• Digital communication skills – creating video content, presentations and social media content.
• A background in international admissions or admissions within an educational body

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• Monitor and advise the BIMM Colleges and colleagues across the institution on the latest information relating to immigration legislation and implement any resultant changes to policies and procedures.
• Provide a flexible and responsive immigration information and advice service to international applicants and students maintaining high levels of customer care at all times.
• Deliver briefings and training sessions for staff throughout the BIMM Group.
• Act as a Business partner to one or more of the BIMM Group’s UK Colleges outside London. This involves regular meetings and visits to a BIMM College to assess compliance with policies (particularly on attendance) and any barriers to achieving compliance; advising and supporting to find solutions. Also advising on any complex casework/ policy matters, e.g. where a student requests a break from study.
• Act as a point of contact with external bodies including UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) and offer expert immigration advice within the BIMM Group to both students and staff.
• Ensure that international student monitoring procedures are managed effectively and reported accordingly to the UKVI.
• Report, as required, on visa refusal, non-enrolment and non-completion rates (or such reports as may be required under the Student Visa Route.
• To develop a comprehensive understanding of BIMM Group’s engagement monitoring systems, such as attendance monitoring, liaising with other stakeholders as required.
• To work closely with colleagues during enrolment and registration of new students, ensuring that they are given the best possible service whilst maintaining compliance under current immigration rules.
• Issuing CASs in compliance with UKVI regulations.
• To build relevant relationships with stakeholders such as the Home Office, ICN and other related networks and stakeholders (including internally) for the benefit of the BIMM Group.
• To provide cover for colleagues as and when required.
• To carry out other duties consistent with the level of responsibility of the post as requested by the Immigration & Compliance Manager.
